The commercial was shot as a speculation, mainly produced for my MFA cinematography class. I wanted to achieve an example for my portfolio that was completely different in style and tone, something that I knew I wouldn’t have the opportunity to do unless I could prove that my team and I CAN do it. Enjoy :)

Nothing’s been color corrected, and this is only a rough cut (fun cut) for class, but will be widdled down to a 30 second spec commercial in a calivin klein style.
All shot on Canon 7D with:
70-200 Canon L-Series IS at 2.8
and Tokina 16-50 non-IS at 2.8

Motivating Light Change (Test)

This test is something quick I did with my wife for my MFA graduate cinematography class that I’m taking at the Academy of Art University. The assignment was to show the concept of time passing within a scene, so to motivate a drastic light change, but keep it within the style established by the theme chosen by the cinematographer

Won Best Cinematography!

The fruits of our labour have indeed burst forth! I was awarded Best Cinematography at this year’s 168 Film Festival in Los Angeles!! We were chosen out of nearly 100 teams, and some amazing films that, in my opinion, were far more deserving. The 168 Film Fest is a timed festival, with which each team has 168 hours (1 week) to write, produce, shoot, and finish a film. In its 8th year, it’s drawing more and more attention. The film was shot nearly a month ago, titled “Just Cops”, and walked away with a total of 5 awards! Director/Producer Theo Love and wife Jessie Love are responsible for the fantastically produced film. The film will be viewable soon, depending on how Theo wishes to proceed with festival distribution.

This video was filmed entirely on the Canon 7D. No color correction was used. Elijah Star’s style is one of my favorites. He only uses natural light, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at his photos. He’s has an amazing eye.

The Professor

It’s very difficult to produce a film when you live in a town where no one is an actor, this film taught me that. Filmed in 6 hours at Shasta College, despite the deep stress to complete such a task, it was very fun.

Produced and Directed by Josh McHale. DP Drew Maw. Shot on HVX200 and Letus Extreme. This was an intense little shoot. Hit by rain and thunder hit us in the dry bed creek, we built a make shift hut to protect our expensive equipment. Much wasted time later, we pursued to finish the fight, as it were.

Rooster Chicken

My first film with the HVX200. I produced and directed this while attending Simpson University in 2007. It's an homage to Robot Chicken, but more "Christian" friendly. haha. If any film that I've created so far encapsulates my humor, it's this one. :) haha
