The commercial was shot as a speculation, mainly produced for my MFA cinematography class. I wanted to achieve an example for my portfolio that was completely different in style and tone, something that I knew I wouldn’t have the opportunity to do unless I could prove that my team and I CAN do it. Nothing’s been color corrected, and this is only a rough cut (fun cut) for class, but will be widdled down to a 30 second spec commercial in a calivin klein style.
All shot on Canon 7D with:
70-200 Canon L-Series IS at 2.8
and Tokina 16-50 non-IS at 2.8

Motivating Light Change (Test)

This test is something quick I did with my wife for my MFA graduate cinematography class that I’m taking at the Academy of Art University. The assignment was to show the concept of time passing within a scene, so to motivate a drastic light change, but keep it within the style established by the theme chosen by the cinematographer

Won Best Cinematography!

The fruits of our labour have indeed burst forth! I was awarded Best Cinematography at this year’s 168 Film Festival in Los Angeles!! We were chosen out of nearly 100 teams, and some amazing films that, in my opinion, were far more deserving. The 168 Film Fest is a timed festival, with which each team has 168 hours (1 week) to write, produce, shoot, and finish a film. In its 8th year, it’s drawing more and more attention. The film was shot nearly a month ago, titled “Just Cops”, and walked away with a total of 5 awards! Director/Producer Theo Love and wife Jessie Love are responsible for the fantastically produced film. The film will be viewable soon, depending on how Theo wishes to proceed with festival distribution.

This video was filmed entirely on the Canon 7D. No color correction was used. Elijah Star’s style is one of my favorites. He only uses natural light, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at his photos. He’s has an amazing eye.

Fashion Shoot w/ Jason

I’m currently producing a documentary on some of LA’s fashion photographers. I had to submit some footage to my grad school, to document my progress. Here is a little montage of completely raw footage, no color correction, I cut together. The documentary will be completed before Christmas. All shot on the Canon 7D

This footage is for a short documentary I’m producing on a few of LA’s top photographers. Photo-shoot/lighting provided by Jason Christopher. Shot in the Elevate Lounge, which is in a LA skyscraper penthouse. This video does not inherently, on my behalf, represent the final documentary or style thereof, the photos, the model, those who appear, the client, and/or the property with which it was shot on.

Canon 7D at Santa Monica Pier

I shot this on Thursday, the 1st, and edited this over the last few days. My wife was my lens manager for the day. The 7D is an excellent little camera. The 7D, while may look pretty, has certain limitations which many camera users may see as a breaking point. While the price may be lower than your traditional HD cam, it doesn’t have the bells and whistles to satiate those looking to film weddings or live events. It’s max recording time is 12 minutes, but you can hit record immediately after it stops to start a new “reel”, as it were. The rolling shutter issues are still there, but can be worked around just like the 5D Mk II.

I think for short films, indie films, and even feature films, as a goto B-unit camera, commercials and some documentary styles, it will work great though. I think for my situation, it works perfectly, but for many, a 3CCD HD camera like the HVX200 will be a better recommendation. It all depends on what you need to do with the camera… but again, for many, it’s not the workhorse many hoped it would be, but for others it’s a dream come true!

We Love was co-created in part with The Stirring (thestirring.org), a post-nondenominational (best way to describe it) Christian church based in Redding, Northern California. The video is Directed and produced by Nathan Edwardson, both the video and the church, I was and am still very proud of the video and Nathan’s gifts to pursue the church’s congregation to chase the arts. They recently purchased a new facility and will hopefully move in within the next year in the heart of Redding.
